I’m Getting A Dog

Puppy Dog

I’m getting a dog and this is not only news to you, but also to my husband.

Surprise sweetie!

You see, I’ve wanted a dog for a long time.  Growing up we never had a dog.  Most of my family members had allergies.  I have been tested and thankfully I’m not allergic to man’s best friend.

But  there are still a couple of issues standing in my way:

  1.  My husband does not want a furry friend in the house and
  2. Little S is not wild about dogs at this point

But who can resist a sweet little puppy?  It’ll grow on them I’m sure.

There are other things to think about too.  Owning a dog in a home without a yard will be challenging.  I’ve been told by dog owners that I will come to despise the morning routine of getting dressed and taking the dog all the way downstairs to the outdoors.

Am I crazy for thinking that we could make a happy home for a dog in our small condo?

I came across a fantastic article on condo.ca titled Which dog breeds are best for condo dwellers?

Quite simply put:  “Dogs make their homes in the city and country, in mansions, single-family houses, condominiums, and apartments. For some breeds, like the irresistible Bichon frise shown here, life in a condo is easy. Others, not so much. If you live in a condo and are looking to add a dog to your life, consider one of the following breeds…”

How perfect is this article for me to read at this time?

Research = done!

Convincing my husband = bribery, promises and lots and lots of Hockey Night in Canada.

So let’s look at my argument more closely.  I’m already a fan of the cute little puff-ball known as Bichon Frise so I’ll take that recommendation.  Here’s the advice on this breed from condo.ca.

…a happy-go-lucky dog. Faithful and obedient, the bichon is a wonderful addition to any condo. Weighing around 15 to 20 pounds, the bichon does require regular grooming to keep his coat looking great, but it is recommended for people with mild allergies because it sheds infrequently…”

Grooming, not a problem.  Little S and I already spend a lot of time grooming each other and the Rapunzel Styling Head she got for Christmas.  It will be no problem to add another body to the routine.  And in case any of my family history of allergies has been passed down to S, this breed is best.

Obedient?  That’s more than I can say for the two animals I already live with…so that’s not going to be a problem.

I’m not seeing any reason here why not to get a dog.

So the decision is made…I’m getting a dog.

My ask of you is that you leave some convincing comments to help me persuade my good-looking, caring, generous, smart, witty, intellectual husband.

And perhaps this would be a good time to mention that Harley on the wish list.  Just sayin…
