Things to Do in London on Labour Day Weekend {#LdnOnt}

It is with mixed emotions that I share with you all the happenings taking place this last summer long weekend of 2011.

Fall is my favourite season but summer is my favourite time of year. The transition from summer to fall always stings a little. That’s why I need to make the most of this coming Labour Day weekend and I think you do too!

September 2, 2011

Horn of Africa: Drought Relief Concert

  • Where: The Aeolian Performing Arts Centre (795 Dundas St. E)
  • Time: Doors open @ 6pm, concert starts @ 7pm
  • What: Featuring songs and dances from various ethnic communities.
  • Cost: Tickets are free! Donations can be made during the show and a week after the event.

September 2 – 5, 2011

Victoria Park’s Fall Fest

  • Where: Victoria Park
  • Time: 11 – 11 all four days
  • What: London’s last summer festival and fist annual Fall Fest. Live music, carnival rides, live animal displays, London’s biggest Pumpkin contest, wood-working demonstrations, hobby crafts, competitive arts including quilting, wine making and baked competitive entries
  • Cost: Entry is free! Rides, beer & wine extra

Country Idol Contest

  • Where: Harris Park
  • Time: Noon – 11pm all four days
  • What: A singing contest that is open to Canadians from 14 to 80. The winner for the contest will be a part of a National release of the winner’s version of a special song written for the Friends of Veterans Canada.
  • Cost: Free

Honey Harvest Festival

  • Where: Aylmer, ON (11302 Imperial Road (Hwy 73))
  • Time: Every Saturday in September starting Labour Day weekend 11am – 4pm
  • What: Learn how honey is harvested, dip your own beeswax candle, see a live bee hive opened, view a bee beard demonstration, wagon rides, bee barrel train rides, music and farm animals

Springbank Gardens – Sunday Summer Concerts

  • Where: Wonderland Gardens Bandshell – 285 Wonderland Rd. S. (just north of Springbank Dr.)
  • Time: 2pm – 4pm
  • What: The Retro Rockets in Concert at the Wonderland Gardens’ Bandshell. Sit under shade of the new Guy Lombardo Pavilion or on the grass near beautiful landscaped gardens
  • Cost: Free!

The Met

  • Where: 140 Dundas Street
  • Time: Friday 4 pm – 9pm, Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 5 pm
  • What: The Met is a weekend artisans market specializing in artwork, handmade, speciality, rare, vintage and local product. Every weekend is something different, with vendors offering a unique shopping experience

Back 2 School Challenge

  • Where: The Children’s Museum
  • Time: 10 am to 5 pm
  • What: A day filled with 60 second challenges in the galleries to win Back 2 School supplies! Cool off with Snow Cones from 1-2 and enjoy lots of other interactive activities.
  • Cost: Regular Admission – $7 or $2 for children 12 – 23 months
