London’s 2011 Santa Claus Parade – A ‘Jack Frost’ Christmas

christmas

It’s hard to believe that we’re already talking about the annual Santa Claus parade. But it is in fact the time to welcome the man-in-red to London.

On Saturday, November 12, starting at 6:00 p.m. the 55th Annual London Santa Claus Parade will make its way down Dundas Street to bring cheer to all the little boys and girls.

THE PARADE ROUTE

The parade will begin at Egerton Street (West of Kellogg’s and East of the Western Fair) and travel West on Dundas Street to Ridout Street. The parade distance is 3.3 km / 2.0 miles in length.

I conversed with Shaun Merton, Director of Operations & Media, London Santa Claus Parade and he shared that the parade will take about an hour and a half to get to the end of the parade route (Dundas & Ridout).

CHARITIABLE DONATIONS

The London Santa Claus Parade provides support for many charitable organizations including the London Food Bank, London Salvation Army, the Shriner organization, Woman’s Rural Resource Centre and My Sisters Place.

LONDON FOOD BANK

Bring your non-perishable food item(s) to the parade with you and share it with the volunteers collecting during the parade. Last year 14,742 pounds of food was collected; more than any other year.

LONDON SALVATION ARMY

Last year the Salvation Army collected 2, 700 teddy bears for less fortunate children. Pick up a cute, cuddle friend and bring it along to the parade. Again, volunteers will be available for handoff.

Tip: Last year I picked up a cute teddy bear for $7 at Loblaw/Great Canadian Superstore. They always have a great selection of plush toys and you don’t have to spend a lot.

TOONIE TOSS

Volunteers along the parade route will be carrying hats for toonies, loonies etc. Cheques will also be accepted and can be made out to London Santa Claus Parade.

LETTERS TO SANTA

Canada Post will be collecting letters for Santa during the parade. Remember to address all letters to:

SANTA CLAUS
The North Pole
HOH OHO

Tip: you can mail a letter to Santa any other time. Visit my friend’s blog Peek Thru Our Window to learn more.
