Making Time for Me {#HealthyFamilies}

If there’s one thing I’m sure of it’s that parenting is a tough job!

Do you remember your life before you had kids? Do you remember thinking you never had enough time to do all the things you wanted?

It isn’t until you add kids into the mix that you truly understand what being ‘busy’ is all about…all of a sudden your needs are at the bottom of the list and there really is no time for you!

I’ve always been a firm believer in a rested parent, is a better parent. That is why I always try to make time for me. There are three things that I will drop everything for. Three things that pull rank over housework, laundry, grocery shopping etc. and in no particular order I’m sharing these with you today.

Thankfully my husband and I each have a supportive family and we’re not often hard pressed to find a babysitter so we take advantage of that by sharing some good quality alone time.

On special occasions or just for fun, we’ll make it a fancy date night by getting dolled up and going out to our favourite restaurants. But more often than not, when we find ourselves sans-child we’ll snuggle up at home and watch back-to-back scary movies and stay up late while eating popcorn and other treats. This may not sound so glamourous or urbane but it’s really where I’m happiest!

Twice a week, every week from May to September (and once a week from November to April) I make time for my absolute favourite pastime, playing soccer. Very few things will keep me from soccer and the women I play with become my summer family.

There are few better feelings than being part of a team and working towards one common goal (or in our case, many goals seeing as we’re in first place in the league!) and getting a kick as* workout at the same time!

Soccer is a game of stamina, agility, skill and determination! And these are all skills that I hope for Little S to have. Allowing her to watch me play soccer as she grows up is what I believe to be a very positive experience and one I am thankful for the opportunity to have.

To say this year has been busy is an understatement. Between being a mom and wife, a full-time Quality Assurance Analyst, blogger and show host/producer, I’ve become quite exhausted. Give me a free hour (or two) in my day I will most likely use it to take a nap.

Sure there are probably more useful things I could do with my time, but settling into bed in the middle of the afternoon (especially on a rainy day) and drifting off into dreamland really makes me happy!

Don’t confuse this nap-passion for laziness. Consider it a hobby that I am just very, very enthusiastic about! It recharges me and makes me a better mom, wife, friend, sister, daughter etc. I love napping! Enough said.

What activities or hobbies do you do to make quality time for yourself? If I had a magic wand and could grant you two extra hours a day how would you use them? What are you so passionate about that you’ll drop all other responsibilities to participate in?

I look forward to hearing your answers and learning more about you!
