Stash Your Stuff with Storage Worx & Win!

Storage Worx

I’m no stranger to what it’s like in studentville at the end of the school term. Living in the heart of the city affords us a front row seat to view the leftovers of a school year well-lived. Many of the downtown streets become strewn with debris that finds itself homeless come springtime.

This is risky business as it can result in some pretty hefty fines for homeowners, landlords and even the students heading home. No to mention it’s not good for the environment.

STORAGE WORX

Luckily Storage Worx has students covered this year.

Storage Worx is London’s  newest full-service self storage facility offering a full line of boxes & moving supplies, climate controlled units and contractor units. They are located in Meadowbrook Business Park just off Exeter Road.

Starting February 21 to April 20, 2013, UWO and Fanshawe College students can take advantage of a promotional offer to stash their stuff over the summer. Check it out:

4-Month Student Storage Package – $395
  • 4 Months of 5′ X 10′
  • Secure Climate Controlled Storage
  • Free Disk Lock (Yours to keep, A $12 Value)
  • Free Move-In with our truck and driver
  • Delivery back to your place when school starts
  • $15 worth of Free Boxes to pack it all in!
  • All you have to do is load & unload

Storage Worx makes moving out and moving in a seamless process from start to finish and students (and their parents) get to have peace of mind that their stuff will be safe, dry, clean and ready for them come next fall.

Check out the award-winning facilities at Storage Worx. And I don’t use the term ‘award winning’ lightly. Storage Worx received the national Self Storage Facility of the Year award for 2012. You’ll see why:

OUR CREATION

We love our No-Touch® hand soap dispensers; we have one in each bathroom and one at our kitchen sink. When we were asked to decorate one, we were excited. I gave Little S full creative rights and only observed the process. She decided to keep her materials pretty simple with just paint and stickers.

The result is a colourful and vibrant work of art. Although we are not eligible to enter the contest (as a Lysol blog tour participant) our prize is the functional piece of Little S’ art that we can display proudly in our guest bathroom for all to see and admire.

In our home sweet breakfast items are always at the top of the breakfast menu wish list. I plan to combine two LMD recipes and swap a couple of items to add a little more nutrition to a family-fav!

Check out my creation below:

FIBRE 1 BLUEBERRY BUNNY RABBIT PANCAKES

Bunny Rabbit Pancakes

Ingredients
  • 1 cup (250 mL) Fibre 1 original cereal
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ¼ cups (300 mL) buttermilk or milk
  • 2 tbsp (25 mL) vegetable oil
  • 1 cup (250 mL) whole wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) Xylitol
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) baking powder
  • ½ tsp (2 mL) baking soda
  • ½ tsp (2 mL) salt
  • ½ cup (125 mL) fresh or frozen (thawed) blueberries
  • 1/4 cup (50 mL) raisins
  • 8 pieces (each 11/2-inches/4 cm) red string licorice
  • 4 maraschino cherries
  • Maple Syrup
Directions
  • If desired, crush cereal by placing in resealable food-storage plastic bag; seal bag and crush with rolling-pin or meat mallet (or crush in food processor). In medium bowl, beat egg with wire whisk or fork. Beat in buttermilk, oil and cereal; let stand about 5 minutes or until cereal is soft. Beat in remaining ingredients except blueberries. Gently stir in 1/2 cup (125 mL) blueberries.
  • Heat griddle or skillet over medium heat or to 375°F. Grease griddle with vegetable oil if necessary (or spray with cooking spray before heating).
  • For each pancake, pour 1/4 cup (50 mL) batter on hot griddle (if batter is too thick, stir in additional milk, 1 tablespoon/15 mL at a time, until as thin as desired). Cook pancakes until puffed and full of bubbles but before bubbles break. Turn; cook other sides until golden brown.
  • On four dinner plates, stack 2 pancakes each.
  • Use additional pancake to cut ears and bow tie.
  • For bunny’s face, arrange 2 raisins for eyes, cherry for nose and licorice for mouth.
  • Drizzle with maple syrup and garnish with raisins.

What’s your favourite brunch recipe?

Happy Easter!

Trim Tuesday: Muscle Weighs More Than Fat

The Belly Fat Cure

About six weeks ago, I began practicing hot yoga. Many years ago I had a good yoga practice going but life happened and I stopped going. For the past 40 days, my yoga flame has been blazing; I’ve consistently practiced 4 to 5 times a week in this time.

Just the past weekend I noticed some changes in my body. Physically I feel stronger. My core feels more firm and my arms are beginning to look more shapely. This is when the light bulb went off. What I was seeing physically wasn’t sinking in mentally.

MUSCLE WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT

We all know muscle weighs more than fat, but if you’re fixated on the scale (like me) that knowledge won’t matter. You may expect to see that number going down, but if you’re increasing muscle mass, it won’t at first. The changes will be taking place on the inside and the scale won’t necessarily reflect that.

I decided to get some much-needed advice from my friend and personal trainer Bernice Robinson of Bernice Robinson Personal Training Studio. She reminded me that

“…for every pound of muscle it takes 40 to 60 calories a day to maintain. Therefore our body uses more energy increasing our metabolic rate which is the only way to lose body fat and keep it off. Also remember muscle weighs more than fat, but is much more dense; taking up less room in our bodies which equates to a more petite frame.”

“And don’t get discouraged by what the scale is reading! It takes time and it’s a forever thing. Not a short-term, quick fix.”

This is just what I needed to hear to keep going.  Slow and steady wins the race and if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.  A slow and steady fitness regime along with healthy eating is a fool-proof way to achieve your health goals.

MIND BODY AND SOUL

Sucess

I love yoga for a number of reasons and none of them actually have to do with weight loss. I love devoting an hour a day to my body and soul. I am able to quiet my mind during the classes and focus on my breathing and postures. I love the sense of calm this brings to me both physically and mentally.

Yoga makes me feel strong and empowered and if one of the side effects is more muscles and an increased metabolism than I am okay with that.

WEEK FIVE RESULTS

Start waist: 35”

End of week five waist: 33”

Week one weight loss:  4.6 lbs

Week two weight loss: 1.6 lbs

Week three weight loss: 0 lbs

Week four weight loss: 1 lb

Week five weight loss: 0 lbs

Total weight loss: 7.2 lbs

Total waist inches lost: 2”

Short Term Goal: To feel comfortable in a bathing suit on our trip to Florida in April.

Long Term Goal: To lose 37 lbs.

Remaining weight loss to goal: 29.8 lbs

Healthy waist: 32”

What activities do you like to do to increase your fitness? Are you a scale junkie? How do you overcome that?

Note: I am not receiving compensation nor am I affiliated with The Belly Fat Cure. These opinions are my own. Before starting any health or meal plan you should consult with you doctor. Or so I have been told.

Win With Fisher-Price: A Million Moments of Joy Contest!

Fisher-Price Million Moments of Joy

I remember the fragile and vulnerable feeling I had as a new mom. Yes I carried my baby for nine months but that doesn’t prepare you for the emotions you experience when he or she is placed in your arms for the first time (OVERwhelmed).

Or how the world seemed brand-new on that first car ride home and how you worried you couldn’t protect her from all the possible dangers (OVERprotective).

Or just how exhausted you were going to be and that you’d be so consumed with your new addition that you’d forget to eat (OVERtired).

Being honest about motherhood is important because you never know when a fellow mama needs to hear words of encouragement and that she’s not alone in her mix of emotions.

New parents need to share both the ups and the downs of parenthood, because let’s face it; it’s not all sunshine and roses. You quickly learn that after the first poopy diaper.

FISHER-PRICE A MILLION MOMENTS OF JOY
