Summer BBQ: Spicy Molasses Chicken

Spicy Molasses Chicken

I Recently found myself craving some smoky, mesquite-like barbecued chicken and since I had never made anything like this before, I decided to look up recipes on-line.

I wanted a nice, clean version of the summer classic but I couldn’t find anything that fit my dietary needs exactly so I decided to take matters into my own hands and create my own recipe.

I must say that I’m pretty proud of myself on this one; it’s smoky, spicy and sweet all at the same time and it makes use of molasses in place of regular processed sugar and comes with many health benefits.

When sugarcane and sugar beets go through the refining process and no additional sugar can be crystallized from the crop, the residual substance is molasses. Unlike refined sugars, however, this viscous, residual syrup contains substances, such as trace amounts of vitamins and several important minerals that provide your body with vital health benefits. – livestrong.com

Among its superpowers molasses is rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium and antioxidants. So it not only tastes great but it’s good for you too!

The key to this recipe is the smoked paprika; if you don’t have it in your pantry, go buy some and don’t even think about using regular paprika in its place. It’s due to this smoked version that gives this recipe its unique, earthy flavour.

Note: this recipe can be made milder or spicier by adjusting the cayenne pepper measurement. Here I provide a milder version:

Healing Chronic Dry Skin & Eczema with Thentix A Touch of Honey {Giveaway}

This past fall I was plagued with dry flaky skin around my eyes and while it was ridiculously annoying, I had no idea how it would take over my life.

I had surgery in September and I attributed the skin disruption to the tape they put over your eyes while you are out. Little did I know it was the beginning of an eight month-long problem that became painful, itchy and embarrassing.
First it started with flaky skin just above my eyelids but eventually turned into painful, swollen, almost sty-like sores in my lower eyelid. It changed the look of my face as my eyes appeared swollen most of the time.

Eventually I realized I needed to see a doctor. First I went to a walk-in clinic where they prescribed a cortisone cream which is very risky to use in the eye area. It can cause thinning of the already delicate skin around the eye area and pigmentation changes. I used it very sparingly to no avail.

Next I went to see my family doctor where I was told it was likely winter dry skin and/or eczema. All the while the itchiness and swelling was getting worse and worse until one morning I woke up with a very sore, swollen and red lower eyelid. I decided to go to an urgent care clinic.

There I was told the same thing; winter dry skin and I was instructed to stop using any creams, washes and makeup, all of which seemed impossible to me. As I made my way from the exam room a nurse stopped me and told me the story of her friend whom had been dealing with similar issues.

This is when I first heard the name of my soon to be saviour, Thentix. The nurse shared that her friend received 100% relief by using this product. Needless to say, I was intrigued.

At this point I was desperate so I decided to reach out to the folks at Thentix; I figured if this woman had such great success that perhaps I needed to use it, test it and share my results. I am so glad that I did.

Thentix sent over their product line to use and I began to see relief in a few different stages:

THENTIX A Touch of Honey Skin Conditioner

Thentix Skin Conditioner

First I enjoyed immediate relief from the itchiness when I applied the Thentix Skin Conditioner to my eye lids and surrounding area. It also provided the long-term relief and subsequent solution to my problem.
It is so effective because it is gentle and light while at the same time nourishing and buttery. This is thanks to the wonderful natural ingredients used to create the Thentix products.

Unlike other moisturizer, Thentix uses natural ingredients to penetrate the top layers of the skin which helps it heal from the outside – in. This is perhaps what I love about it most; it’s effective and safe! Its ingredients include:

  • Pure natural honey: plumps up the skin to allow it to draw an retain moisture
  • Royal Jelly: helps to heal the top layers of the skin when damaged by the elements
  • Aloe Vera: has great wound healing and scar reducing properties
  • Vitamins A & E: accelerate healing and reduce sun damage to the skin
  • Jojoba & Avocado Oils : tone the skin, highly penetrable and resembles natural sebum which balances skin oils
  • Ginseng Extract: increases circulation by oxygenating skin cells
  • Sunflower Oil: protects damaged and inflamed areas and has anti-aging properties
  • Calendula: a natural antiseptic
  • Chamomile: softens rough, dry skin

Over longer term use I noticed an improvement in my skin each day until eventually it was gone all together! It felt like a miracle!

THENTIX Gentle Hair Care

Thentix Hair Care

Even though I wasn’t having any problems with my hair, I welcomed the idea of using natural shampoo that is sulfate-free and 99% plant-based. The shampoo lathers up quite nicely which you don’t always get with natural shampoos. And the conditioner left my hair feeling silky and smooth but not weighted down.

THENTIX Muscle and Joint

Thentix Muscle And Joint

As a soccer player I am constantly searching for effective topical muscle pain reliever. I never considered using a natural product for this though as I assumed it would have to be very medicinal. I was wrong; with ingredients like Capsicum Oleoresin from hot peppers and Methyl Salicylate from Winter Green leaves it’s a naturally effective topic cream.

THENTIX Premium Lip Balm

Thentix Lip Balm

The last product I tested with the lip balm and it is my favourite lip balm I have ever used. It’s smooth and effective. I usually only need to put it on once in an evening and it keeps my lips moisturized. It has a nice scent and flavour and is not at all overwhelming. With natural ingredients like Shea Butter and beeswax, it helps nourish, condition and soften lips.

I know that day I was in urgent care I was in the right place at the right time; I was meant to meet that nurse so she could share Thentix with me and I could use it to cure my dry skin and eczema. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to try the products and to fix my issues.

I will be a forever user of the Thentix line and I will always recommend it to anyone who is suffering from skin issues ranging from eczema to diaper rash to hives to insect bites and everything in between.

Thentix is a Canadian-based company and can be found in a variety of locations in Ontario. Check out thentixskincare.com to find a retailer near you or buy online if you are out of province or country. You will love Thentix so much that you might even want to ask you local health store to start carrying it so you have even easier access.
