We Moved!

You may have noticed that I was pretty quiet for the past few months…I apologize for that but it’s for good reason; we moved!

If you’ve moved before, you know how time consuming and stressful it can be. Not only did we move, but we sold almost all of our “stuff” and that took up a ton of time too.

You see, we bought a model home and chose the option to buy everything in it; from the furniture to the books to the candles, if it was in the home when we bought it, we kept it! Not only did we get all new things, but the colour scheme is completely different than our old home so almost everything had to go!

WHY WE MADE THE MOVE

If you follow along with City Mom, you know that we absolutely loved our downtown home and loved being a part of the hustle and bustle the city centre offers. However, it did start to show a few downsides…don’t get me wrong…I still totally support urban living with children, but for our particular family, in our particular situation, it was the best decision at this time in our lives.

As Little S is an only child, she is constantly craving playmates; while I love a good American Girl doll session, I have my limits. Since she was the only child in the building downtown, playmates didn’t really exist. Furthermore, she didn’t have access to freely come and go, to ride her bike along the sidewalk and to play outside with other kids because of our high-rise location.

FROM THE CITY TO THE ‘BURBS

Once we decided that we wanted to make the move, we began our search. We browsed on and off without finding anything that we really loved. It either came down to price, location or size; none of which seemed to suit us.

We had come to love the ease of condo-life too much. It meant no outside maintenance, grass cutting, snow shoveling etc. but we were done with the high-rise lifestyle (for now). Nothing grabbed our attention enough to convince us that it was time to go.

One Sunday afternoon early last spring, we happened to drive by some signs that stated an Open House so we decided to check it out and we quickly fell in love with what we saw. Fast forward a few months and we were living in our new home.

And the best part? It’s still in London and it’s still a condo so we get the best of both worlds (in our opinion); we get the things we were missing like a driveway for playing, neighbours with young children and a yard but, we also  keep our low-maintenance lifestyle.

Before we actually moved but had sealed the deal, I kept telling others that we would be back downtown by the time Little S was ready to go to high school…and while I can’t predict the future, I’m not so sure that is true anymore. We love our new home so much. But that is why life is such an adventure; you never know what the next chapter is going to bring!

Stay tuned for my next post where I will share the other floors of our new home and some fun details about buying a furnished model home.

When is the last time that you moved?

Jumpstart Your Health this Fall with the Arbonne 28-Day Clean Eating Challenge

If you are at all like me, you had a really enjoyable summer and you indulged…a lot! That’s ok though…as Canadians, our summers are super-precious because they give us the fuel to make it through the cold, hard winter. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

I have a good remedy though and I’m excited to share it with you today because I have been offered a really good deal to share, so read on to learn all about it.

GETTING BACK INTO SHAPE

Last year, a few things happened in life, like getting extremely overworked and stressed at work and a few other “life” things that were hard to balance…the first thing to go on my list was looking after me. I ended up gaining a lot of weight and getting really out of shape. It sucked!

In December, I decided to take control of my life and get things back on track. I started with something I knew I had liked in the past and that was a particular class at the gym that I had had success with years ago. So I joined the gym and started going two to three times a week.

I knew this was going to require a lot of hard work and dedication and I knew it was going to be difficult to stay motivated so I wanted to make small goals. I could handle two to three times a week and I had planned to get my eating on track once I was in a good routine.

NUTRITION BOOTCAMP

After a few months at the gym, I was really starting to see changes in my body. I started to lose weight and gain muscle mass. I knew it was time to introduce the nutrition aspect into my goals.

I was looking for something that was relatively easy to do, but I wasn’t into counting things, measuring things or cutting out entire food groups. I didn’t want to do a “fad diet” or get caught up too much with science; I just wanted to eat healthy, get the right nutritional requirements and support my workout regimen.

ENTER THE ARBONNE 28-DAY DETOX

Weight loss before and after

Detox is a really strong word for this program. I have done strict detoxes before, and thankfully this is not nearly as rigid. There are some foods that you need to eliminate, but they are the obvious items like sugar, caffeine, refined carbs etc.

The program is best summarized by using the term “clean eating” – if you don’t know what that means, don’t worry because you get lots of coaching, lots of information and lots of recipes to choose from.

After completing the program I felt fantastic and ready to hit “bathing suit season” with confidence. In total, since my lifestyle change in December, I have lost 17 lbs, 12 inches total and gained 5 lbs in muscle.

Even though I “slipped” a little over the summer, I have been able to keep my weight off and stay fairly active. I have a renewed self-confidence, more energy, I sleep better and my skin has really improved.

WHY I RECOMMEND THE ARBONNE 28-DAY DETOX

I have tried a lot of fad-diets and I now know, that the only real way to get results is to start from the inside out. A healthier inside just naturally leads to a healthier outside. So take my advice and focus on your health, rather than weight loss in particular and it will all fall into place.

I chose the Arbonne Detox for the following reasons:

  • Easy to follow program that doesn’t include counting calories or tracking of any kind
  • Pure, safe and beneficial products to support and supplement nutrition
  • An active community of support
  • Delicious protein shakes to support nutrition and weight training
  • A wealth of information, recipes and education on clean eating

The Perfect Family Vacation: Melody Bay Cottage Resort {Video}

Parkbridge Melody Bay

This past Labour Day weekend, my family and I spent four relaxing and fun-filled nights at Melody Bay Cottage Resort in Buckhorn, Ontario.

Before I describe this beautiful lakeside resort, check out my (amateur) video highlighting a few of my favourite things about Melody Bay.

ABOUT MELODY BAY

Melody Bay

Melody Bay is an upscale, cottage resort and a Parkbridge property. You might be familiar with the Parkbridge name as we are big fans of their Lakes of Wasaga resort in Wasaga Beach and have featured it on City Mom before.

Melody Bay is situated on the scenic shores of Upper Buckhorn Lake, and is one of the newest and most exclusive resorts in the Kawartha Lakes region. Our upscale cottage resort is a mere 5 minutes from the artistic haven of Buckhorn, on the Trent-Severn Waterway and offers an extended season from April 1st to November 15th.

Melody Bay offers RV Cottage sales as well as a few rental units. We were fortunate enough to stay in a two bedroom, RV Cottage rental and it was perfect for the three of us.

Glamping really is the perfect term to use to describe cottaging at Melody Bay. On one hand you have luxury with stainless-steel appliances, flat screen TV, small BBQ, comfy beds and a full-sized bathtub and shower.

On the other hand, you have an “outdoorsy” feel with fire pit, treed lots and quaint accommodations. It’s the best of both worlds!

WHY YOU SHOULD STAY AT MELODY BAY

Melody Bay Cottage Resort

If you are looking for the perfect summer vacation for your family, with a cottage-feel, you will love Melody Bay. There are so many things that we love about this resort from the family focused feel to the beautiful beach to the plethora of outdoor activities, but my favourite part about Melody Bay is the swimming pool.

For our family, swimming pools are a must on vacation. Little S far prefers a pool over a lake so it’s an important feature. The pool(s) at Melody Bay are saltwater which makes for a nice swimming experience. But the best thing about the pool is that when they say “heated” they mean heated.

The temperature of the pool was 88° and it was the perfect temperature to allow for long swimming sessions. And what’s even better, we were able to last a long time playing with Little S too. Often we find pools too cold to play a long time and it often causes our fun to come to an end earlier.

Another thing we loved about Melody Bay was the staff and community. You will likely meet Doug and/or Jacqueline and they are both passionate about making sure that you have everything you need to make for the perfect stay. The permanent residents are also very friendly and welcoming.
