Beauty and the Beast Giveaway

5 REASONS WHY DRAYTON ENTERTAINMENT’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST IS A MUST-SEE!

I am still coming down from the high of our experience at the Huron Country Playhouse seeing Beauty and the Beast; it was hands-down the best musical production that I have ever seen! There are SO many reasons why you and your family should go to see this production, but I’ve narrowed it down to the top five!

1. The humour:

Tony Edgerton, Keith Savage, Patrick R Brown and Danielle Wade in Beauty and the Beast, 2017

As a young girl, I was a huge fan of Disney’s animated film Beauty and the Beast when it was released in 1991, so I thought I knew what to expect from this story before we attended the show at the Huron Country Playhouse.

I was so pleasantly surprised with the amount of timely, witty humour that was implemented into Drayton Entertainments’ version of this Disney classic. Some of the humour was appreciated by all, young and old and some was reserved for the adults which made it unique and appealed to the entire family.

Highlight: Lumiere and Cogsworth’s hilarious and playful banter.

2. The talent:

Danielle Wade as Belle and Tony Edgerton as the Beast in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Drayton Entertainment, 2017

When Belle, played by Danielle Wade, appeared on stage and belted out her first few notes, my daughter excitedly and urgently asked if she was “really singing, or was it a recording from the movie?” And it wasn’t only Little S that thought Danielle and Belle from Disney’s film sounded extremely similar – we all thought the same.

The talent doesn’t stop there…every single cast member nailed their characters and captured our attention as we were glued to the stage. The writing, directing, music and acting all came together to create a one-of-a-kind entertainment experience.

Highlight: Tony Edgerton, who plays the beast, was excellent at drawing us in to both fear him in the beginning and then to come to understand his story as he softens and learns the meaning of love and kindness.

3. Gaston:

Brent Thiessen as Gaston and ensemble in Beauty and the Beast

Gaston, played by Brent Thiessen, gets his own heading because as the character is written, we shouldn’t like him. Cast as the quintessential villain, Gaston is traditionally a self-absorbed, macho jerk but the combo of the writing and Brent’s talent causes us to actually crave seeing him on stage – we just couldn’t get enough. Some might even find themselves having a bad boy crush (wink, wink Mom)!

Highlight: Gaston, Lefou and the rest of the ensemble in the “The Mob Song” number and the antlers dance. And sorry ladies, but Gaston is “taken” and his wife, Jennifer Thiessen, is sharing the stage with her hubby in this production. How sweet?!

4. The Silly Girls:

Ashley Arnet, Jessica Horn, Jade Repeta

I really cannot say enough about how amazing this show was. That’s why it is hard to pick just five reasons why you should go…alas, I must narrow it down and The Silly Girls are three reasons in one.

Performed by Ashley Arnett, Jessica Horn and Jade Repeta, the Silly Girls almost steal the show! As Gaston’s fandom, they add a lot of humour, a little sass and a touch of naughtiness (don’t worry, only the adults will pick up on this) to the production. Endlessly talented, these three actors really add the icing on the cake.

Highlight: When the girls learn that Gaston is going to ask Belle to marry him – their reaction. Enough said…lmao!!

5. The costumes:

Victor A. Young, Zoe Brown, Valerie Boyle and Patrick R. Brown in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Drayton Entertainment

The costumes are perhaps one of the most awe-inspiring aspects of this production. Costume Designer, Rachel Berchtold, has added her own unique take on the costumes, especially in comparison to other Beauty and the Beast adaptations.

I imagine that it must be pretty difficult to transform inanimate objects like a candelabra, clock, dinner plate, napkin and dresser into living things. Rachel has done an amazing job with this task and the choreography created by Robin Calvert has complimented her creations perfectly.

You’ll know what I mean when Mrs. Potts, played by Valerie Boyle, offers to pour tea for Maurice and when the napkins dance like The Rockettes. And you’ll fall in love with little Chip played by London’s own Zoë Brown.

Highlight: Mrs. Potts’ and Chip’s costumes. Some very cute and clever takes on these two character’s costumes.

What Does Having it All Mean to You? Share & You Could Win!

Food Basics I Want it All Contest

What does “having it all” mean to me?

Ten years ago, my answer would have been very different than it is today. Back then I think I would have answered something along the lines of a marriage, a family, a big house, a fancy car, a prestigious career, extravagant vacations, and a wardrobe that would make J-Lo jealous.
Not that there is anything wrong with that answer but as I’ve matured and gained more wisdom and become a mom, my answer is very different than the one I just made up.

Today my answer to the question, “what does having it all mean to me?” is pretty simple…having it all means that my family and I have our health and happiness and the general necessities in life like a roof over our head, clean water, access to healthy foods that are readily available, education, the ability to participate in our community, opportunities for physical fitness, access to healthcare and so on; anything else is gravy! Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy gravy, but for me I don’t need it to feel like I have it all.

Have it All

I believe that when my daughter looks back on her childhood, she is not going to wish that we had a bigger house, a fancier car or more “things”. The memories that fill her story will be that of the simplest things like laughter, unconditional love, special milestones, her friendships, her teachers, her extended family, family vacations (regardless of their location and star rating associated) and the fact that we were there for her through it all.

WHAT DOES HAVING IT ALL MEAN TO YOU?

Having it all means different things to different people and there is no right or wrong answer. We are all driven by different things and it takes such a variety of personalities to make our world what it is.

Today Food Basics is asking you to answer the question “If you won free groceries for a an entire year, what would you do with the savings?” and you could win $1,000 worth of groceries.

It’s really easy to enter…just follow these simple steps at foodbasics.ca/videocontest and to learn about the contest rules. Contest runs from May 19, 2016 to June 29, 2016.

Food Basics Contest

WIN FREE GROCERIES FOR A YEAR

And guess what?! It gets better…visit a Food Basics store starting on June 2nd, 2016 for your chance to win 1 of 3 grand prizes of groceries for a year ($10,000 in Food Basics Gift Cards)!

That’s almost $200 extra in your pocket each week! When speaking of having it all – how would that extra cash help you achieve your dream of having it all?

For me I think that I would use the savings to go towards my “gravy” like saving it up to take an extra vacation or to treat Little S to some new adventures and/or splurge a little and have some fancy date nights with my husband…the possibilities are endless.

Don’t forget to visit foodbasics.ca/videocontest to enter. Have fun and good luck!

The Cheerios Effect: Share Your Story to Win

#CheeriosEffect

Have you heard of the Cheerios Effect? It is a real scientific principle that is nicknamed after the cereal; it’s about the fact that if you drop two Cheerios into a bowl, they’ll always eventually float together and connect. How cool is that?!

ABOUT THE CHEERIOS EFFECT

Every morning, a story of connection is played out in your breakfast bowl. And just like those two tiny, floaty little Os, we’re all drawn together. We believe nothing could be more natural. So no matter who you are, where you live, or who you choose to share your life with, we believe everyone is worthy of connection – and everyone has a story worth sharing. – The Cheerios Effect

I really love Annie & Lisa’s connection story as it reminds me a bit of my own story that I created (see below):

MY #CHEERIOSEFFECT STORY

Kelly and Melissa

When I was asked to create my #CheeriosEffect connection story so many people ran through my mind. Of course there is my husband, my daughter, my family and friends but I decided to share my story about my oldest friend Melissa.

Melissa and I met at the age of 10 when were in Grade 5. Melissa moved to London and started attending my school; 27 years later, Melissa and I are just as close. To say she is my best friend is an understatement; we are more like sisters without the fighting over clothes. :)

Melissa and I chat almost every morning where we discuss the latest dramas with our children, our shared business and living an authentic, positive life. I think we both look forward to our morning chats as it starts the day off on the right foot and it keeps us close and current.

Melissa holds a special place in my heart because she has been there for me through thick and thin. She is a pillar of strength for me at times when I need it most. She is part of my “team” of people who make life happier when things are good and easier when things aren’t so good.

For these reasons I chose to dedicate my Cheerios Effect story to Melissa. Who would you dedicate your story to?

SHARE YOUR #CHEERIOSEFFECT STORY TO WIN

Here’s how:

Finish® BOGO: Win a $10,000 Kitchen Makeover!

 Finish BOGO Ultimate Kitchen Makeover

Have you ever been to a party where no matter how many comfortable, inviting couches there are strewn about the house, not a soul occupies them? Instead, guests huddle around the kitchen? Perhaps sitting at bar stools, or even standing? I have witnessed this phenomenon many times in my home and in others and I am sure that you have too.

Because of this, I feel safe in saying that the kitchen is the heart of any home. In our home, the kitchen is the place that many important aspects of our day take place; it’s where I make my coffee first thing in the morning and therefore where survival begins.

It’s where we gather at the end of a busy day to share a meal and nourish our bodies and our minds. It’s where I feed my creativity by experimenting with new and old recipes alike. It’s where artwork ends up, to-do lists linger and tiny fingerprints collect. It’s where the love is!

FINISH BOGO & KITCHEN MAKEOVER

Because the kitchen is the most important place in the home, I am happy to share a fun opportunity with you. It starts with a deal; buy any two participating Finish® products in store, mail in the official rebate and receive your refund by mail.

But there’s more…when you do that, you’re entered into a contest to win one of ten $10,000 BOSCH kitchen makeovers!

The only issue you may have is deciding which Finish® products are your favourites. In our home, we are fans of the entire Finish® line from the Quantum to the Powerball to the Gelpacs. It doesn’t seem to matter which we use, the result is always the same: sparkling clean dishes!

Check out the Finish Canada Facebook page for more details.

LET’S TALK KITCHENS

City Mom's Kitchen

One of the things that attracted me most to our condo when we were searching was the kitchen. I have to say that it’s pretty darn close to my dream kitchen as it is, but nothing is perfect and a girl loves to dream.

What I love about my kitchen is the openness; from my sink I can see the TV in the living room, the entrance to Little S’ room, the entrance to our room and thank to strategically placed mirrors, our front door. When I’m in my kitchen, I have eyes on our whole home.

I love the amount of counter space that we have and I’m never hard pressed to make room for appliances, bowls, etc. when cooking. I love that we have a place to put bar stools so people can gather around while someone is working.

But, as mentioned, I do love to dream! So much so that I even created a My Future Kitchen board on Pinterest. If ever there is a kitchen makeover in my future, these pins showcase some of my favs.

YOUR DREAM KITCHEN

bosch-home.ca

What would your dream kitchen look like? Would you go with The Urban Kitchen or are you more a Country Kitchen kind of family? Does the Mid-Century Kitchen speak to you or is The Elegant Garden Kitchen more fitting?

Whatever your taste, the bosch-home.ca kitchen gallery has a kitchen that will suit your needs. Have some fun and check them out and build your own pin board of dream-kitchen-ideas so that you’re prepared if you become one of the ten lucky winners!

Disclosure – I am participating in the Ultimate Kitchen Makeover Blogger Campaign on behalf of Finish. I received compensation as a thank you for participating and for sharing my honest opinion. The opinions on this blog are my own.

My Embarrassing Stain Moment & Resolve® Tip Exchange

ResolveTipExchangeLogo

As moms/parents, we are no strangers to stains. In the early days of parenting, the hardest stains to get out were those strained carrots, sweet potatoes and peas. As our children grew we started to deal with grass stains, mud and grape juice!

Now-a-days it seems like paint, more mud, more grass and marker stains are at the crux of our stain-removal-woes. We all have our handy tricks to get out tough stains, some conventional and some not so much, either way we find a way (usually) to get those stubborn stains out.

MY STAIN NIGHTMARE

‘Nightmare’ might be a little too dramatic but this story definitely goes on my list of embarrassing moments.

Take a look at this photograph:

Resolve Tip Exchange

The scene: a romantic anniversary dinner at The Keg, our favourite celebratory restaurant. We had a babysitter, dressed ourselves up and had just ordered our pre-dinner drinks. Of course, I needed a photo to capture this special moment so I asked a stranger sitting nearby.

Just after the photo was taken, I reached for the camera and upon doing so I hit my drink in my other hand and it came splashing down all over my husband’s white cotton pants.  He was covered in tomato juice, and when I say covered, I don’t mean a few drops; the entire drink poured on him.

So not only was his outfit ruined, he was soaking wet but thankfully there was a small saving grace;  we live just a few minutes away so he ran home and changed. Needless to say our evening was a little dampened (no pun intended)!

See what others recommend for this type of stain like mine.
