HONK! Giveaway

Exciting news…today on City Mom, you can enter to win a family 4-pack of tickets to see Drayton Entertainment’s Honk! playing at St. Jacobs Country Playhouse from November 29 – December 24, 2017. Read on to learn how you can enter.

Honk! Definitely delivers a message that is good for all, but especially for our children. It is more important than ever to share the message that bullying is not okay and that each child has resiliency and grit to rise above any naysayers. I’m so excited to see this performance and I think that you will be too!

Here is what Drayton Entertainment has to say about Honk!…

Being different is good! Based on the beloved Hans Christian Andersen fable, this high-energy musical comedy tells the story of Ugly, a duckling born into ridicule and loneliness simply because he is different. When he leaves the farm and embarks on an adventure of self-discovery, encountering peril while unknowingly outwitting a ravenous cat, Ugly discovers there’s much more to him than anyone thought.

Winner of multiple awards, this universal story of acceptance is sure to quack up audiences of all ages with its unique gaggle of barnyard characters, tuneful songs and clever comedy.

St. Jacob’s Country Playhouse is just 90 minutes away from London and makes for an exciting day trip! Visit draytonentertainment.com to purchase your tickets to see Honk! and hurry because some dates are already sold out. Tickets start at $27.

One lucky City Mom reader will win four tickets (two adults, two child) to see Honk! at St. Jacobs Country Playhouse on Thursday December 7, 2017 for the 7:30 pm performance. Check out the giveaway widget below to enter. Contest is open to Canadian residents excl. Quebec and open until November 19, 2017 at 11:00 pm.

My family and I are lucky to be able to attend one of the opening performances of Honk! We will be sharing our experience via Instagram and right here on the blog so be sure to check back in December to read our review.

Good luck and happy honking!

Make Memories This Summer at the Mustang Drive-In {#Giveaway}

If you’re like me, the term drive-in evokes a rush of fond memories; there was something magical about watching a movie in your car and getting to fall asleep under the stars while the adults watched the next feature.

As a Londoner, I have always been fortunate to be able to recreate this experience right in my own backyard. The Mustang Drive-In is one of London’s gems located at 2551 Wilton Grove Road which is about 10 minutes outside of the city.

Mustang Drive-In

Dog Friendly London Ontario

I haven’t blogged about this yet but have shared lots on social media – in case you didn’t know, we welcomed a new member to our family this spring – we are proud parents of a Goldendoodle puppy named Jazz.

If you’ve ever raised a puppy, you know that they are a ton of work! It’s worth it but it’s still work none-the-less. I kind of thought that our movie days were over (for now) until I learned that the Mustang Drive-In is dog-friendly.

What a perfect evening it was to go on a “date night” with my husband with our puppy in tow. It worked out perfectly and opened up new possibilities for us in regards to entertainment.

Mustang Drive In Retro Vibes

Perhaps the best thing about the Mustang Drive-In is that they have maintained the old-school vibe which is synonymous with the drive-in experience. Not only does this provide nostalgia for us parents but it helps to make for a genuinely unique experience for the kiddos and provides a time machine-like adventure.

Snack Bar

Just like the regular movie theatre experience, the Mustang Drive-In has you covered for all the must-have movie treats. From buttery popcorn to sweet treats to fountain pop, the menu is full of fun options for the entire family.

Woof n Park

It is suggested that you arrive early to get the best spot, but don’t worry because the kids will not be bored while you’re waiting for the show to start. A playground featuring new equipment surrounded by a protective surface area of sand is available up until show time for the kids to play.
A large field for soccer, baseball etc. is also available for use and arcade games inside the snack bar for the older kids/teens. And of course, there is an area for the dog’s bathroom needs and refreshments (though there were no refreshments available at the time we visited).

Mustang Drive In Sign

You can stay up-to-date on what features are playing as well as ticket prices, specials and more via the Mustang Drive-In website. You can also follow along on Twitter and Facebook.

One City Mom reader will win a Family Movie Night Package that includes two adult admissions, two child admissions and concession vouchers to be used at Mustang Drive-In in London, ON.

7 Cool Facts You Probably Didn’t Know About Cirque Du Soleil: OVO

Cirque du Soleil: Ovo London

London, we are so lucky to have the amazing performance of Cirque Du Soleil: OVO visiting our city and they will only be here until June 18, 2017.

We were lucky to attend the London premiere last night and I must share that this show is a MUST SEE for the whole family! Get your tickets here so you don’t miss out.

In addition to attending the premiere event, we also got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Cirque Du Soleil: OVO production and we learned some really cool facts that we think might surprise you.

1. The Cirque du Soleil production transports the entire OVO set from city to city via 19 transport-sized trucks.

Among the cargo? 180 suitcases for the team’s personal items.

2. The Cirque du Soleil OVO team travels with their own washers and dryers for costume laundering.

Yup! They carry six washers and two dryers on the trucks so that costumes can be washed after each performance. This ensures that all 1,000 costume pieces are clean and flawless for each show.

Cirque du Soleil Washers

3. The Cirque du Soleil OVO team consists of cast and crew members from 20 different countries.

Canada, Russia, Ukraine and China are just a few of the countries represented.

Cirque du Soleil: OVO

4. The Cirque du Soleil OVO team travels with over 100 individuals that all work together to create the awe-inspiring event.

This number is made up of approximately 50 performers, 25 management members including wardrobe specialists and 25 technology specialists.
Among this number there are two physiotherapists that travel with the team to keep the artists in tiptop shape and injury-free.

5. The Cirque du Soleil OVO performers are responsible for their own makeup for each performance.

When cast members join the team, professional makeup artists apply the full “face” first, in Montreal, to act as an instructional lesson. Next, the makeup artist applies a “half face” and the performer mimics this on the other side.

Finally, the performers are provided with a step-by-step guide to follow in preparation for each performance.

6. Many of the Cirque du Soleil artists have a diploma from “Circus School”.

Students who attend a college such as Ecole nationale de cirque or National Circus School in Montreal earn a Diploma of Collegial Studies in circus arts (DEC), a three-year program that aims to produce professional circus artists.

7. The elaborate Cirque du Soleil costumes are handmade in Montreal.

When artists are brought on for a particular production, their measurements are taken to create a custom made costume. The performers spend three to four weeks training in Montreal while their costume(s) are made.

A last set of measurements are taken before the final touches are applied to the costumes as the performer’s size may have changed from the intense training.

Cirque du Soleil Cricket Costumes

It is no wonder that so much goes into the production of this iconic production. These are just a few of the amazing things there are to know about the behind-the-scenes aspect of Cirque du Soleil.

Check out the OVO trailer and get your tickets before they sell out.

Disney on Ice: ‘Follow Your Heart’ has made its Canadian debut right here in #LdnOnt

Disney on Ice Follow Your Heart

I was lucky enough to attend an opening show of Disney on Ice, again, for the second year in a row!  Last year I attended with my daughter who was in awe of all of the beautiful Disney princesses. This year, my husband and my two-year-old son were able to come along with us! I wasn’t sure if the content would be enough to hold my son’s limited attention span for the duration, but with the added feature of Pixar’s Finding Dory, which kicks off the second half of the show, my son was as gripped as my daughter was the entire time!

For ticket information click here.

Disney on Ice Follow Your Heart

Disney on Ice Follow Your Heart

This is an all-new Disney on Ice show and will only be playing in three Canadian cities: London, Montreal and Toronto.

The show kicks off with the characters from Pixar’s Inside Out; Riley and her Emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, as they lead us through the show by helping Riley to work through her emotions of growing up and finding her confidence to win the hockey championship!

Disney on Ice Follow Your Heart

Every Disney princess makes an appearance and as they skate out, they mention the virtues that each princess possesses like bravery, kindness and perseverance. I thought this was a great message to deliver to kids and complimented the Inside Out story line of emotions as well. There were also some amazing aerial acrobatics displayed by Rapunzel and Ariel. My husband and I were both really amazed, as well as the kids!

Disney on Ice Follow Your Heart

My daughter was loving every moment of the show but was even more thrilled when she saw the wintry-world of Frozen come alive! Snow fell from the sky and Elsa, Anna, Olaf and Kristoff skated around Arendelle to help show that love is the most powerful magic of all! Even my husband and I were singing along to all of the songs!

Disney on Ice Follow Your Heart

And what would a Disney on Ice show be without seeing Mickey and the gang? The characters from Toy Story come together to celebrate friendship as well.

Disney on Ice Follow Your Heart

You can “Follow Your Heart” and attend the remaining London shows this weekend:

  • Friday, March 3 –  7pm
  • Saturday, March 4 – 11am & 3pm
  • Sunday, March 5 – 1pm & 5pm

I definitely recommend it!  It was a fabulous show.  My kids had a great time and my husband and I had fun as well; we all made lasting memories together.

Tickets for Disney On Ice presents Follow Your Heart start at $20.

Your seats will be reserved and tickets are available at budweisergardens.com, disneyonice.ca, at the Budweiser Gardens Box Office, or by calling 1-866-455-2849.
