My Embarrassing Stain Moment & Resolve® Tip Exchange

As moms/parents, we are no strangers to stains. In the early days of parenting, the hardest stains to get out were those strained carrots, sweet potatoes and peas. As our children grew we started to deal with grass stains, mud and grape juice!

Now-a-days it seems like paint, more mud, more grass and marker stains are at the crux of our stain-removal-woes. We all have our handy tricks to get out tough stains, some conventional and some not so much, either way we find a way (usually) to get those stubborn stains out.

‘Nightmare’ might be a little too dramatic but this story definitely goes on my list of embarrassing moments.

Take a look at this photograph:

Resolve Tip Exchange

The scene: a romantic anniversary dinner at The Keg, our favourite celebratory restaurant. We had a babysitter, dressed ourselves up and had just ordered our pre-dinner drinks. Of course, I needed a photo to capture this special moment so I asked a stranger sitting nearby.

Just after the photo was taken, I reached for the camera and upon doing so I hit my drink in my other hand and it came splashing down all over my husband’s white cotton pants.  He was covered in tomato juice, and when I say covered, I don’t mean a few drops; the entire drink poured on him.

So not only was his outfit ruined, he was soaking wet but thankfully there was a small saving grace;  we live just a few minutes away so he ran home and changed. Needless to say our evening was a little dampened (no pun intended)!

See what others recommend for this type of stain like mine.

It’s for nights like this, that I am happy we finally have a place to go to share our tried and true stain-removal methods and a place to find help for those stains that leave us scratching our heads. Resolve’s new site, Resolve® Tip Exchange, is your one-stop-shop for stain removal fun.

You can visit and share a stain-removal tip and when you do (once a week) you are automatically entered into a draw to win a grand prize $5,000 shopping spree as well as 12 weekly prizes of prepaid credit cards up to $250!

And if you have one of those head-scratchers, you can ask a question and get answers from the experts!

What is your most embarrassing stain moment? What is the toughest stain you’ve had to conquer and how have you beat it?

7 Days of Giveaways – Blogiversary Celebration

7 Days of Giveaways

It’s my blogiversary, not today, but in just a couple of weeks. I’m so excited to celebrate this event for two reasons.

First, I can’t believe it has been a year. Time flies when you’re having fun. I look back to my very first post on June 24, 2010 and I see how far I’ve come in a relatively short time.

I’ve gone from casual writing about our adventures in the city to freelance writing, radio interviews and exciting giveaways. And I’ve made so many great friends and contacts as a result.

I stepped way outside of my comfort zone early on and interviewed Anne Marie DeCicco-Best (London’s mayor at the time) and Joe Fontana (London’ current mayor) during London’s mayoral election. This is an achievement I will always be proud of.

I’ve learned so much about my great city and the people who live in it. There are some amazing programs, small businesses and fabulous females that make up London and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.

My second reason for my excitement is because I get to give back. City Mom would be nothing without the people who read it. Though I’m not fixed on stats, I admit that when I see them grow I get a rise. It means that people are listening. The feeling of knowing that people care what you have to say will never get old.

When I receive comments on a particular post it feels like a gift. Someone is taking time out of their busy schedule to share their thoughts…with me! I’m truly honoured and thankful.

7 Days of Giveaways

So to show this gratitude I’m giving you gifts. I know, it’s my blogiversary, I should be getting the gifts but it’s you who deserves them!

I’ve gathered a list of some great vendors to run a feature called 7 Days of Giveaways. There will be seven exciting reviews, each with a special giveaway. The feature will run from June 24 to 30 with a new opportunity each day.

I don’t want to share too much, as there’s something to be said about surprises, but think jewellery, makeup and books…that should tide you over!

Looking forward to seeing you on the 24th!

*Note: June’s second Fabulous Female will run on Thursday, June 23 to allow the blogiversary celebration to start on time.

The Art of Getting Free Stuff

There is a world out there I never knew existed; a place where free products are given away by the minute.   I was unaware of this magical land until I became a blogger and a follower of other blogs myself.  Now that I know the secret, I had to share it with you.

The best part about these giveaways is that you don’t have to work very hard for them.  And the items that are given away are well worth the little effort you do put in.  Recently I have seen giveaways for jewellery, salon grade flat irons and children’s toys to name just a few.

There are women that make careers out of contest entries.  And can you blame them?  We all know the best things in life are free!  Women are saving money left, right and centre.  From grocery vouchers to cleaning products, it’s all there for the taking and who doesn’t love free stuff?

Keep in mind; you don’t have to be a mom or a blogger to enter any of these contests.  Browse the list below and you’ll see what I mean.

First, the two basic things you’ll need to have are a Facebook account and a Twitter account.  Both are super easy to create and don’t take a lot of work to maintain.

I suggest these two because most contests require you to ‘Like’ a page on Facebook and/or follow a vendor on Twitter.  Extra entries often include tweeting a phrase about the contest on your own profile.

Next I recommend creating a Google account. This will come in handy for a couple of reasons.

  1.  Extra entries often include following on Google Friend Connect which is as easy as a couple of clicks, and
  2. With iGoogle and Google Reader, you can easily keep track of the blogs that you choose to follow.

Now you’re ready to start following some blogs.  I have put together a quick list of some of the blogs I like for giveaways.  This is only a short list; like I said, there’s an entire world out there of sites like this.
