The Red Cross Disaster Dining Challenge {#LdnOnt}

Are you aware of what you need for your family to be prepared for 72 hours in the event an emergency?

This is important information for individuals and families to know so to help raise awareness I’m participating in the Red Cross Disaster Dining Challenge.THE CHALLENGE

 I, along with other members of the community, will have 30 minutes to prepare a tasty and nutritious meal using only non-perishable food items (as suggested to be part of an emergency preparedness kit) and bottled water and I will not be able to use electricity.

After the time is up our dishes will be tasted by a local celebrity judge.

Participants from the community like Chris Bentley, MPP for London West, David Lazenby, Deputy Fire Chief, London Fire Department and Steve Goodine, Inspector, London Police Service will be participating in the challenge along with me, City Mom and my partner, Christy from Home of OHM.

We’ll be ‘cooking’ with some of the available ingredients like tuna, salsa, canned chick peas, brown sugar, lemon juice and more. Our recipe will be a secret until the day of the event.

Come out and cheer me on and contribute to the Red Cross and this great cause.

When: Thursday, August 4, 2011

Where: Walmart, 1280 Fanshawe Park Rd. W, London

Time: 10:30 AM

The Red Cross encourages Canadians to be prepared by creating a kit with items, including food, to help their family help themselves for at least 72 hours during an emergency.

Being prepared can help ease the stress on your family and allows your community to focus on the most vulnerable.

The Disaster Dining Challenge is being held in conjunction with the launch of WalMart’s annual fundraising campaign for the Red Cross.

Every August, WalMart stores across Canada ask customers to donate $1, $2 or $5 for local Red Cross initiatives at the till. This year the fundraising goal is $2.78 million across Canada.

For more information on how to create your own Emergency Preparedness Kit please visit the Canadian Red Cross.

Hope to see you there!
