The Importance of Fibre: Are you getting enough? {Free Product Coupon}

Fibre 1 Almond & Cluster Delight

Fibre: It’s not a new word and you’ve likely heard it many times from doctors, dietitians and nutrition experts alike. But do you really know why fibre is so important?

So what is fibre and why is it key in your daily diet?

Fibre includes all parts of plant foods that your body can’t digest or absorb. Fibre is also known as roughage or bulk. – Dietitians of Canada

Fibre though a small word actually has a big job. It is responsible for so many good things for our bodies including:

  • Lowers blood cholesterol
  • Controls blood sugar levels
  • Helps to keep bowels regular
  • May protect against colon cancer
  • Helps to cure constipation

It is recommended that a healthy diet should include 25 – 38 grams of fibre a day. It doesn’t sound like a large amount, so why do most people have trouble getting enough of it each day?

It may be easier to understand if we take a look at some popular fibre-rich foods and the amount of fibre they pack:

  • Raspberries (1 cup) – 8 grams
  • Air popped Popcorn (3 cups) – 4 grams
  • Oat Bran (1 ounce) – 12 grams
  • Kidney Beans (1 cup) – 16 grams
  • Brown Rice (1 cup) – 4 grams
  • Spinach (1 cup) – 4 grams

The list goes on and on, but with our busy lifestyles and calorie-conscious diets, it’s easy to see why people aren’t getting enough; we either have to eat too much of one type of food, or spend too long in the kitchen preparing enough.

Like me, you’re likely already a fan of Fibre 1 products. They pack a tonne of fibre within one convenient package that not only tastes great, but helps you meet your daily fibre requirements with ease.
